May Pet Holidays: Be Prepared for Anything
Natural disasters like earthquakes, fires, floods, and hurricanes offer harsh reminders that pets and other animals suffer as much as people do when disaster strikes.
May pet holidays remind us of our obligation to help those who can’t always help themselves.
National Pet Month – This special month was created more than 20 years ago in England (where’s it’s celebrated in April) to promote five goals:
– Promote the benefits of pet ownership.
– Support pet adoption.
– Promote responsible pet ownership.
– Increase public awareness of services available from professionals who work with animals.
– Raise awareness of the role, value and contribution to society of service animals.
Responsible Animal Guardian Month (In Defense of Animals)
Chip Your Pet Month – Observed by animal clinics and hospitals, who often offer discounts on pet microchipping.

May 21-27 – National Dog Bite Prevention Week – Every source I checked marks this as the third full week in May, but the AVMA website lists it as April 9-15, 2017, and it’s their holiday, so I don’t know what to tell you.
